During the difficult times is when we can see our inner strength emerge. Strength that may surprise us as we believed it to not be there to begin with. The ability to handle overwhelming emotions, not only our own but helping those that we deeply care about. It is the kindness within our heart and the will to carry on in our mind, that can make all of the difference ❤
Just like the weather takes down parts of nature regularly around the world. A number of influences and events can bring us to a breaking point. One where we feel helpless, uncertain and hopeless about how things could possibly get better. It is in those dark moments that the awful thoughts make it into our minds, causing us to want to give up on a battle that we are yet to understand.
You see, these are the moments where your mind is so clouded, that the negatively is flooding in and all around you. It is at a point where it is hard for you to break out of it and hard for anyone to get through to you because if you cannot communicate with yourself that things can get better, how can anyone else help you? This is a moment where chaos is taking over and suffocating your heart.
So what are the things that can help you when you are in despair? It can be helpful to start off with breathing exercises. Breathe in deeply and out slowly. Repeat in a calm as possible manner at least 10 times. Something as little as breathing can cause you to feel much better. Often we forget to take a step back and just breathe. We get too caught up in the pain of the matter and can forget that there is always a way to get through any difficult situation ❤
Another thing that you can do is look at something that makes you happy. Maybe you have a guitar, teddy bear, game or some photos that remind you of happiness. Ones that have positive memories attached to them. It is a good idea to place such items in your home where you can see them everyday, to remind you of the happy times and that there are much more to come. Having one item on display may be able to prevent you from going to a negative place, straight away 🙂
Since you are in control of your mind. You need to practice having good thoughts. Will practising good thoughts or affirmations prevent you from having emotions of anger, sadness or worry? No, is the short answer. The reason why it will not, is that we are human beings. Each day we choose where we go, what we do and who we want to be around. We are limited to what we can control.
If we want to be happy all day long, we can not force those that we interact with during the day to also be happy. You could be feeling your best, meet up with a friend and your friend mentions that they are sad. What happens now is that you reflect their sadness, even though you are encouraging them that they will be fine, you have still felt emotions of sadness. This could influence you for the rest of the day and possibly add up to deeper moments of you being sad, if you do not pick up on it.
We can only do the best we can with our emotions. Putting in the time and effort to keep our mindset positive on a daily basis can help but not always prevent us from spiralling. You need to know that you are smarter, stronger and braver than you think. You can help those that you care about as much as you can. The most helpful way to help others and yourself, is to exercise your mind positively, so that you can be prepared for any obstacles that challenge you 😀
