Mystery Island is a stunning part of Vanuatu 😊😊
I visited this lovely island in September 2017, while on a 10 night South Pacific cruise on the Carnival Spirit ship (see review here).
Here are some quick facts about Mystery Island as per the Carnival (“Stuff you really gotta know onshore!”) information sheet that was provided the night before arriving to the island.
It states that Mystery Island is 1.5 km2 (0.57 square miles) in size. Has a population of zero (as no one lives there and it is apparently haunted). The official name of the island is Inyeug but people commonly call it Mystery Island.
The island has beautiful surrounding white sand and plenty of stunning coral reefs that are close enough to snorkel from shore. Travelling to the island each year is 99 percent done by cruise ships (which mainly contain Australian tourists).
Just like Lifou Isle the white sand of Mystery Island is beautiful and lovely to walk along on. The water was crystal clear and had magical blue tones, that got darker as they were further from land and the coral reefs.
It was interesting exploring the little hut like houses. They were so much fun to explore and inspiring to see in person. Being on a little island like this made me think about places I would love to live in the future.
I really enjoyed walking amongst the trees ^.^ The tropical nature there is so different and made me felt like I was on the journey. I learnt more about mother earth and myself while being in the presence of such wonders. I am very grateful for those moments.
The wooden cravings were particularly interesting. I want to learn more about the purpose of them. Is it just about culture or could it have something to do with the island being haunted? Maybe they are guardians? I will have to find out more when I return next year.
My eyes were attracted to the structure of the buildings. I love the combination of the different materials that were used. I especially like the style in which the stones are placed upon each other in the walls.
There were some interesting insects and bugs as well. I saw some big beautiful spiders that were hanging in their webs, high up in the trees. I know this may be scary for some people but they were placid and did not bother anyone ^.^
Mystery Island was such an amazing experience! I highly recommend that you add it as a must visit destination on your bucket list. There were many beautiful fish and sea creatures that I saw when snorkelling.
I really do love exploring new places and experiencing different parts of nature. Please check out the video above of my holiday in Mystery Island. Like, comment and subscribe if you are new to my YouTube channel. Be on the look out for my Mare vlog next week.
Thank you so much for reading and watching. Have a magical day!
